Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead line dancing classes across a range of styles and skill levels — from country and western to Latin-inspired rhythms
  • Create and teach fun, accessible choreography that welcomes beginners while challenging returning dancers
  • Set up sound equipment and any other gear before each class and store it securely afterward
  • Use a microphone during class to cue steps, call out moves, and keep the energy up
  • Maintain a clean, welcoming wellness area for all participants
  • Track attendance and take note of new participants or changes in regular attendance
  • Stay current on YMCA announcements by checking the instructor book or board weekly
  • Collaborate as a supportive team member with fellow YMCA staff
  • Uphold safety standards in every class in accordance with YMCA guidelines
  • Maintain CPR and First Aid certifications through required Y trainings
  • Report any unsafe conditions, needed repairs, complaints, accidents, or injuries to appropriate staff immediately

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Have experience teaching or leading line dancing classes or events
  • Know a variety of line dance styles and can adapt choreography for mixed skill levels
  • Are energetic, encouraging, and love getting a room moving
  • Hold or are willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Thrive in a community-centered, welcoming environment
  • Ability to pass an audition with our fitness director — a friendly, low-pressure opportunity to show your teaching style
