SPARK! Summer Camp has all the fun and excitement of camp with awesome field trips and exciting learning opportunities!  This program runs for six-weeks.

Certified SPARK! Teachers work alongside learning coaches to provide children a full-day summer camp experience.  In addition to dedicated academic time for campers in the morning, SPARK! includes holistic learning from the Y’s Youth Development curriculum, including healthy lifestyle components, nutrition,character education and much more. 

The SPARK! Teacher position works 20 hours a week planning, implementing and supervising morning educational activities for students, providing each participant with the opportunity to develop physically, mentally, spiritually and socially.

• Encourages physical, emotional and spiritual growth and positive character development in all children.
• Develop and execute lesson plans to include provisions for participant ages and abilities following the 4 Blocks Literacy Model.
• Directs learning coaches during literacy portion of camp.
• Guide children’s behavior in a respectful manner.
• Carry out established roles for supervising the children’s health and enforcing YMCA safety regulations.
• Identify emergency situations then respond quickly and appropriately.
• Help provide an atmosphere for developing positive relationships and well-being amongst associates, families and participants.

• Current Teaching Certificate.
• Two years’ experience or training related to planning and implementing age appropriate literacy education plans and classroom activities for children.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances.
• Able to work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
• Able to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
• Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
• Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.
