Overview

The Y serves thousands of families a year by providing safe, fun, and engaging after-school programs for their children. Substitutes play a key role in creating and maintaining a positive atmosphere that provides homework enrichment, physical activity, healthy snacks, group activities, positive relationships and youth empowerment. Schedules are flexible and include weekday morning and afternoon shifts.

 

Hourly Rates*

$14.00/hour: Youth Development Leaders

$13.75/hour: Youth Development Assistants 

increases to rates are case-by-case based on experience and education relevant to to the field of youth development

Responsibilities

  • Assists with activities in a welcoming environment.
  • Consistently  supervise children present at site; communicate changes with all other associates.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Consistently demonstrate positive interaction with all children; talk to them and treat them with dignity and respect.
  • Work in a team environment and provide open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, families or co-workers.
  • Consistently demonstrate and reinforce the values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility.
  • Be prompt and dependable to work when requested, accept subbing requests on a regular basis, and respond to subbing requests in a timely manner.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 16 for Kansas sites.
  • Minimum age of 18 with high school diploma or equivalent for Missouri sites.
  • Previous experience working with school age children preferred (may include working as a babysitter, nanny or other childcare program).
  • Sensitivity to clientele and staff representing a variety of family, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to actively engage with and supervise children requiring physical stamina, alertness and emotional stability.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
  • Commitment and desire to provide quality youth development services at all levels.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings requiring physical stamina, alertness and emotional stability.
