  • Overview

    The Membership Representative is the public’s initial contact with the YMCA and is expected to communicate to members, participants and general public services, programs and events in a friendly, knowledgeable and courteous manner.  The Membership Representative is expected to emphasize member service, character development, and mission statement and to work with membership retention and promotion. 


    • Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
    • Must greet members, participants, staff and general public in a friendly and courteous manner.
    • Must verify all members and participants using the facility.
    • Must answer phone lines according to YMCA phone procedures.
    • Must be able to direct calls and people on site to appropriate staff.
    • Must respond to needs and questions with accurate information.
    • Must handle complaints in a friendly and courteous manner.
    • Must notify appropriate staff of any unsafe conditions, complaints, needed repairs, incidents, or accidents immediately.
    • Must be able to operate the CLASS system as directed.
    • Must collect and stay informed of appropriate fees; including being responsible for cash, receipts, and balancing financial journal.
    • Must give tours and educate members and prospective members on services, programs, events and volunteer opportunities.
    • Must keep welcome center and lobby clean and well organized.
    • Attend community functions and events to promote the YMCA, its mission and programs.
    • Must provide initiative in teambuilding with all staff.
    • Must assist in annual fundraising campaign.


    • Must be at least 16 years of age.
    • Good communication skills including phone skills.
    • Ability to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
    • Highly organized, detail, and goal oriented.
    • Able to deal with a diverse group of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
    • Able to reflect a positive attitude.
    • Basic math skills in handling fees.
