  • Overview

    The team leader will be responsible for directing a group of youth during the Summer YVC service project programming and assisting supervisor(s) in maintaining all licensing standards.

    This position will actively engage in activities with the youth to provide a positive summer of service experience.  

     

    Responsibilities

    • Contribute to the overall YMCA mission of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.
    • Guide groups and individual children in participating successfully in all aspects of camp activities.
    • Carry out established roles for supervising the children’s health.
    • Carry out established roles in enforcing YMCA and YVC safety regulations.
    • Develop group activity plans with participants as appropriate.
    • Instruct children in emergency procedures.
    • Guide youth in their participation in service projects within the community, special events, and activities.
    • Assist in teaching or leading service learning projects with youth.
    • Set a good example for children and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing clean-up and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.
    • Identify emergency situations then respond quickly and appropriately.
    • Ensure the safety and well being of participants by; knowing participant locations at all times, making participants aware of and enforcing appropriate safety regulations and procedures, applying appropriate behavior management techniques, and maintaining all program equipment and facilities.
    • Positively ID individuals picking-up before releasing children (picture ID necessary until you can personally identify them).
    • Maintains positive relationships with campers, parents and other associates.
    • Encourages physical, emotional and spiritual growth and positive character development in all campers.
    • Encourage respect for personal property,YVC and  YMCA equipment and facilities.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Must be at least 18 years old
    • Must have a minimum of  a GED or high school diploma.
    • Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
    • Ability to lead a group in an activity.
    • Good character, integrity, and adaptability.
    • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control.
    • Previous summer camp experience preferred.
    • Have a desire to work with youth 11-18.
    • Have interest in learning about non profit organizations, fundraising, and working in service projects.
