Overview

Provide an appropriately safe, caring and enriching environment for the children enrolled in our before and after school child care programs.  Join us in serving children directly in elementary schools located within the school district.  Be a part of coordinating, planning, supervising and implementing activities focused on healthy living.  Some positions may be responsible for supervising a group of children.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently demonstrate positive interaction with all children; talk to them and treat them with dignity and respect.

  • Help children to develop a positive self-esteem and sense of self-worth
  • Work in a team environment and provide open communication regarding concerns/issues with children, parents or co-workers
  • Consistently demonstrate and reinforce the values of caring, respect, honesty and responsibility.
  • Encourage parents to participate or volunteer in special events or on field trips
  • Express appreciation for families’ interest in their child(s) participation in the program

Some positions may have additional responsibilities such as:

  • Insure that the program is operated in a safe and purposeful manner, insuring that all licensing and YMCA guidelines are met or exceeded.
  • Implement group activity plan as assigned and according to state licensing and YMCA guidelines.
  • Communicate on a daily basis to families regarding the behavior of their children positive and negative (make sure to have parents review and sign corrective behavior reports).

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 16.
  • Understanding of and ability to apply principles of quality youth development and programming.
  • Sensitivity to clientele and staff representing a variety of family, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Active engagement with and supervision of children requiring physical stamina, alertness and emotional stability.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
