Overview

The YMCA of Greater Kansas City has an opening for the position of Healthy Living Community Coorindator.  This position will be responsible for establishing relationships with public health, physician, and payer communities and other referral networks to enhance awareness of and referrals to the program and will serve as a liaison, ambassador, and advocate for the YMCA’s Chronic Disease Programs within public health, physician and payer communities.

 

This position is under the direction of the Healthy Living Community Director the Healthy Living Community Coordinator will implement the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, supervise daily operations related to the program, provide support and guidance to Lifestyle Coaches, and ensure that the program achieves quality performance outcomes.

 

This is a grant funded position.

Responsibilities

  •  Respond to inquiries from the general public and members of the public health, physician and payer communities about the program.
  • Assist in leveraging relationships with public health, physician and payer communities for the benefit of the program.
  • Engage senior Y leaders to be ambassadors and advocates for the YMCA’s Chronic Disease Programs in the public health, physician and payer communities.
  • Act as spokesperson about the program for the press and media.
  • Serve as primary contact and participate in market launch activities.
  • Assists in interviewing, scheduling, and supervising Lifestyle Coaches.
  • Organize Lifestyle Coaches training(s), and support coaches in implementing the program.
  • Monitor the quality of support that Lifestyle Coaches provide to program participants.
  • Recruit, screen and register eligible participants into YMCA’s Chronic Disease Programs.
  • Organize master schedule of classes offered throughout the association.
  • Engage marketing associates to ensure adequate publicity and marketing of program.
  • Assist Lifestyle Coaches and launching of each group and evaluation of the group.
  • Assist with retention and commitment of program participants.
  • Regularly analyze data from program to ensure it meets quality performance standards.
  • Audit program to ensure compliance with program standards.
  • Participates on regularly-scheduled conference calls with Y-USA and other Ys participating in YMCA’s Chronic Disease Programs.
  • Facilitate classes and provide class coverage if needed to prevent a cancelled class.
  • Participates in the YMCA of Greater Kansas City’s Annual Mission Campaign.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or the equivalent combination of education and experience in health field.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in this or a related field.
  • Minimum of one year’s supervisor experience and ability to direct a team preferred.
  • Public Health background is a plus.
  • Sensitivity to individuals representing a variety of family, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Able to work with diverse groups of people in a friendly and consistent manner.
  • Able to exercise high levels of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Must be able to reflect a positive attitude and inspire confidence.
  • Ability to build strong relationships
  • Ability to manage and monitor department budget.
  • Ability to make independent and sound decisions in a fast paced environment.
  • Must have outstanding communication skills
  • Detail oriented with good organizational skills, and be multi-task proficient.

  • Work effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders (physicians, public health officials, employers, payers, health seekers, and senior Y leaders and lifestyle coaches).
  • Current CPR (child and adult), AED, Oxygen, and First Aid.
  • YMCA Group Exercise Instructor and/or YMCA Foundations of Strength and Conditioning.
  • ACE or AFAA Group Exercise Instructor certification and/or a personal training certification that is accredited through the National Commission for Certifying Agencies.
  • Must maintain a current motor vehicle license and acceptable driving record that meets YMCA standards.
